This senior underwriting leadership role focuses on growing and managing a profitable mid-market cyber insurance portfolio across Western Canada. You will combine strong broker relationship management with disciplined risk selection, technical underwriting expertise, and strategic portfolio development. The position requires a market-facing professional who can win new business, retain key accounts, and strengthen distribution partnerships while maintaining underwriting profitability. You will collaborate closely with internal teams across underwriting, sales, risk services, and data functions to enhance products and customer outcomes. The role also offers the opportunity to shape underwriting strategy in a rapidly evolving cyber risk environment. Accountabilities:
  • Develop and expand broker relationships across the Western mid-market region to generate sustainable new business opportunities.
  • Underwrite and manage a profitable portfolio of cyber and technology risks in line with underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
  • Drive renewal retention through strong service delivery, responsive communication, and strategic account management.
  • Evaluate submissions, negotiate terms, and structure deals that balance growth objectives with portfolio profitability.
  • Monitor market trends, competitive dynamics, and emerging cyber threats to inform underwriting decisions.
  • Collaborate with sales, cyber risk services, and analytics teams to improve solutions, processes, and client value propositions.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on cyber coverage, product positioning, and underwriting best practices.
  • Support regional goals through mentorship, teamwork, and active participation in strategic initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years of underwriting experience in Cyber, Tech E&O, or related specialty lines, with a focus on mid-market business.
  • Strong technical underwriting knowledge and understanding of cyber risk exposures, pricing, and coverage structures.
  • Proven success producing profitable new and renewal business over time.
  • Strong broker development and relationship management skills with an established network preferred.
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills with the ability to close business while maintaining underwriting discipline.
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to balance growth with profitability objectives.
  • Collaborative mindset with experience working across underwriting, sales, and support teams.
  • Leadership qualities including mentoring, influencing, and strategic decision-making.
  • High energy, accountability, and a strong desire to succeed in a competitive market.
