Accountabilities:The Automation Network Specialist will design, develop, and maintain production-grade network automation solutions while helping modernize enterprise network operations. This role requires strong technical ownership, collaboration across teams, and the ability to translate complex requirements into reliable, scalable solutions.
- Develop network automation solutions in Python using frameworks such as Netmiko, Nornir, NAPALM, and Scrapli.
- Build automation pipelines for network configuration management, deployment, validation, and change processes across multi-vendor environments.
- Create integrations with network APIs including NETCONF, RESTCONF, gNMI, and vendor-specific interfaces.
- Implement and maintain source-of-truth platforms such as NetBox or Nautobot to drive automated workflows.
- Develop infrastructure-as-code solutions using Ansible, Terraform, and Jinja2 templating.
- Build testing and validation processes using tools such as pyATS, Genie, Batfish, and Suzieq.
- Design CI/CD pipelines for network changes, including automated validation and rollback capabilities.
- Develop observability and telemetry solutions using streaming telemetry and modern analytics platforms.
- Implement intent-based networking and self-healing workflows to improve network reliability and automation maturity.
- Automate compliance, auditing, and policy validation processes across enterprise networks.
- Partner with network engineering teams to identify high-value automation opportunities and eliminate repetitive manual processes.
- Create reusable libraries, frameworks, and automation patterns adopted across multiple initiatives.
- Mentor engineering teams on Python development, automation practices, and software engineering principles.
- Stay current with emerging network automation technologies, tools, and industry best practices.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have a strong combination of network engineering expertise and software development experience, with proven success delivering automation solutions in enterprise environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Networking, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in network automation or related engineering roles.
- Strong Python development skills, including object-oriented programming, testing, and software packaging.
- Deep understanding of networking concepts including routing, switching, and BGP.
- Hands-on experience with network automation frameworks such as Netmiko, NAPALM, Nornir, or Scrapli.
- Experience working with modern network APIs including NETCONF, RESTCONF, and gNMI.
- Strong knowledge of Ansible and Jinja2 templating for network automation.
- Experience with source-of-truth platforms such as NetBox, Nautobot, or similar solutions.
- Experience with Git-based development workflows and CI/CD practices.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate complex technical concepts.
- Preferred experience with Cisco DevNet or other vendor automation certifications.
- Familiarity with multi-vendor network environments including Cisco, Arista, and Juniper.
- Experience with streaming telemetry, observability platforms, open-source automation projects, or cloud networking automation is a plus.
