Associate Scientific Director

You will lead integrated publication and communication strategies while ensuring scientific accuracy, regulatory compliance, and content excellence at scale. Acting as both a scientific authority and a client-facing leader, you will guide cross-functional teams, elevate content quality, and influence key stakeholder decisions. The position combines strategic oversight with hands-on scientific review, requiring strong leadership in a fast-paced, highly collaborative setting. Accountabilities:

Lead scientific and strategic direction across assigned accounts, defining integrated medical communication and publication strategies aligned with client brand objectives.
Oversee the development and scientific accuracy of high-quality deliverables, including manuscripts, congress materials, training content, digital assets, and MLR-regulated materials.
Conduct detailed scientific reviews to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with industry standards such as GPP, ICMJE, and PhRMA guidelines.
Serve as a key scientific liaison for clients, facilitating advisory boards, workshops, speaker trainings, and strategic discussions.
Support new business efforts by contributing scientific leadership to proposals, pitches, and solution design.
Manage, mentor, and develop a team of scientific writers and Associate Scientific Directors, including performance management and career development.
Drive operational excellence by optimizing workflows, managing risks, and ensuring efficient project delivery and documentation standards.

Requirements

This role requires a strong foundation in medical communications and scientific writing, combined with leadership experience and the ability to manage complex client-facing scientific programs. Candidates should bring a deep understanding of clinical research, regulatory expectations, and publication standards, along with the ability to guide teams and influence stakeholders. Strong communication, strategic thinking, and organizational skills are essential to succeed in a fast-paced, multi-account environment.

Advanced degree in a scientific or healthcare-related field preferred (e.g., MSc, PhD, PharmD, MD), or equivalent experience with a bachelor’s/master’s degree plus extensive relevant expertise.
Approximately 5+ years of experience in medical communications or medical writing, including leadership across multi-asset or multi-account programs.
At least 1+ year of people management or team leadership experience.
Strong expertise in scientific writing, editing, and interpretation of clinical data with knowledge of publication standards.
Experience working within MLR processes and understanding of regulatory frameworks in life sciences communications.
Proven ability to engage clients, lead scientific discussions, and present complex information to senior stakeholders.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with scientific/creative tools and collaboration platforms.
Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
