We're looking for a creative and analytical Actuary to own our core valuation function, shaping the models that measure our success and guide business strategy. Your insights will be visible and essential, providing the clarity that enables our leadership to make critical decisions and ensures our physician partners thrive in value-based care.
If you’re driven by the desire to take ownership, translate complexity into action, and see your work directly impact the future of healthcare, this could be a great fit. This position is part of our Actuarial Student Program, meaning we are committed to supporting your professional development and credentialing.
Pearl Health is powering the future of healthcare. We help primary care providers and organizations to deliver quality healthcare to the patients who need it most, when they need it most — and get rewarded for keeping patients healthy.
Our technology, services, and financial tools enable better, more proactive care, decrease total cost of care across patient panels, and optimize performance in value-based care models for Traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage.
We are a team of physicians and public health experts (Stanford, Harvard, Mount Sinai), technologists (athenahealth, Amazon, Meta, Flatiron), healthcare innovators (Centivo, Aledade, Stellar, Arcadia), and experienced risk management professionals (CVS/Aetna, Humana, Oscar) who believe that primary care providers are the key to addressing our healthcare system’s biggest challenges.
Since its founding in 2020, Pearl has expanded to partner with thousands of primary care providers in practices and organizations across 44 states. Our investors include Andreessen Horowitz, Viking Global Investors, AlleyCorp, and SV Angel.
You will be an architect and owner of our actuarial valuation process, delivering the critical financial insights that guide our strategy and ensure the success of our physician partners.
Own and Enhance the Valuation Process: Lead our end-to-end monthly valuation cycle, from managing disparate data sources and modeling benchmarks to setting IBNR reserves and delivering timely results.
Drive Partner Financials: Manage and refine the models that underpin our shared savings calculations and financial reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and transparency for our physician partners.
Translate Complexity into Clarity: Communicate actuarial findings and financial results to non-technical stakeholders, including executive leadership. Your insights will provide a clear understanding of our performance and its underlying drivers.
Be a Cross-Functional Partner: Collaborate closely with Data Science, Finance, Operations, and Customer Success teams to build a deep, shared understanding of our financial performance and identify opportunities for growth and risk mitigation.
Ensure Actuarial Integrity: Proactively monitor regulatory changes affecting Medicare value-based care programs and maintain robust documentation to ensure our practices are compliant and audit-ready.
You’re a thoughtful and driven actuary who is passionate about healthcare finance and ready to apply your skills in a high-growth, mission-driven environment. To thrive in this role, you’ll bring a blend of technical expertise, intellectual curiosity, and a collaborative spirit.
Must-Haves:
4+ years of professional experience in a healthcare actuarial role involving reserving, medical economics, or financial modeling.
Near-completion or recent attainment of the Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation or an equivalent credential.
High proficiency using SQL to query and analyze complex datasets.
Advanced spreadsheet modeling skills for financial analysis and reporting (we use Google Sheets).
A Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
Nice-to-Haves:
Direct experience with Medicare value-based care models, such as ACO REACH or MSSP, or with Medicare Advantage programs.
Experience using Python for data analysis and automation.
A talent for presenting complex financial information to non-technical audiences and executive leadership.
Familiarity working in a dynamic, fast-paced startup or health-tech environment.
Not-a-Fit If:
You prefer a highly structured environment with well-defined, predictable daily tasks.
You prefer working in a single/siloed function with less exposure to cross-departmental collaboration.
You are seeking a role focused entirely on technical modeling without direct engagement with business strategy.
You’d rather follow a traditional corporate actuarial ladder rather than shaping foundational processes in a growing company.

Integrity is at the core of how we operate, from building products to fostering relationships, and is crucial to our ability to communicate openly and gain trust.
❤️ Serious Impact, Big Heart: We go above and beyond with our efforts to empower proactive, patient-centered care — and we celebrate every step forward. Humor and positivity fuel our creativity, strengthen relationships, and remind us to acknowledge the journey as much as the destination.
