This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Account Director - SLED based in the United States.

This is a high-impact sales leadership opportunity focused on expanding and growing relationships across State, Local, and Education (SLED) accounts.
You will manage existing customer relationships while actively developing new business opportunities within a targeted territory.
The role combines strategic account management, consultative selling, and solution design across complex telecommunications and connectivity needs.
You will engage senior customer stakeholders and position sophisticated infrastructure, network, security, voice, and managed service solutions.
Success requires strong commercial judgment, disciplined pipeline management, and the ability to independently navigate complex sales cycles.
You will work closely with internal sales and cross-functional teams to develop account strategies and deliver excellent customer experiences.
This is a remote role covering the Great Lakes region, with significant autonomy and a strong focus on measurable revenue growth.


Accountabilities
  • Revenue Growth: Generate sales revenue by proactively promoting telecommunications, fiber infrastructure, connectivity, managed services, security, voice, and related solutions across targeted SLED accounts.
  • New Business Development: Build and execute aggressive prospecting strategies to acquire new customers and expand the account base while consistently achieving monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
  • Account Management: Maintain and strengthen existing customer relationships, protect recurring revenue through long-term commitments, and identify opportunities for additional solutions and services.
  • Consultative Selling: Understand customer business priorities, industry dynamics, and technical requirements to develop trusted-advisor relationships and recommend tailored solutions.
  • Complex Sales: Lead customers through the full sales cycle, including discovery, solution development, proposal presentation, negotiation, and closing of large and complex opportunities.
  • Strategic Account Planning: Collaborate with sales colleagues to develop account strategies, solution designs, relationship plans, and growth priorities for high-value prospects and customers.
  • Customer Experience: Deliver responsive, high-quality support throughout the sales process and contribute to strong customer satisfaction and Net Promoter Score outcomes.
  • Pipeline & Forecast Management: Maintain accurate opportunity records, analyze sales activity and performance, and provide timely and reliable forecasts through Salesforce and other reporting systems.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with internal departments to ensure customer requirements are addressed, solutions are delivered effectively, and revenue objectives are achieved.
  • Performance & Reporting: Provide management with accurate information on sales activities, pipeline development, forecasts, customer engagement, and progress against objectives.
  • Independent Execution: Manage a high volume of activity with urgency and attention to detail while operating effectively with minimal supervision and contributing as a collaborative team member.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Sales Experience: At least 5 years of successful solution selling experience into large State, Local, and Education (SLED) accounts.
  • Sales Performance: Demonstrated consistency in achieving or exceeding targeted sales and revenue goals.
  • Telecommunications Expertise: Strong understanding of fiber infrastructure, network connectivity, Ethernet, IP transport, dark fiber, custom access, colocation, and related telecommunications solutions.
  • Solution Selling: Proven ability to manage complex, consultative sales cycles and position multiple technology solutions according to customer needs.
  • Account Management: Thorough understanding of strategic selling, account planning, relationship development, customer retention, and business expansion.
  • Commercial Acumen: Strong financial understanding and the ability to connect customer requirements with commercially sound solutions.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present proposals and engage effectively with a range of customer stakeholders.
  • Relationship Building: Exceptional customer service, interpersonal, and relationship-management capabilities, with a strong focus on developing long-term trusted partnerships.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and the ability to navigate complex customer requirements.
  • Technology & Tools: Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with Salesforce is a plus.
  • Work Style: Ability to work autonomously, prioritize a high volume of opportunities, remain highly responsive, and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Territory: Applicants should reside in one of the covered Great Lakes states: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, or Kentucky.
